Do I need paint correction before a ceramic coating?

Yes, in most cases. A ceramic coating locks in whatever is under it, so any swirls, scratches, or oxidation get sealed in for the life of the coating. Correcting the paint first means the coating preserves a clean, glossy surface rather than trapping defects for years.

A ceramic coating is essentially a clear, hard layer that bonds on top of the paint exactly as it finds it. It does not hide or fix defects; it preserves them. If a car goes into a coating with swirl marks, light scratches, water spots, or oxidation, every one of those flaws is locked under the coating and stays visible until the coating is removed, which can be years.

That is why paint correction is the standard first step. Machine polishing removes the swirls and defects and restores the gloss, and then the coating seals that corrected finish, so the car looks its best for the life of the protection. Skipping correction to save money usually backfires: the coating makes the existing swirls more obvious by adding gloss around them, and you live with that look for the full term.

There is one exception. A brand-new vehicle or a car with genuinely flawless paint may need only a light polish or a chemical decontamination rather than full correction. Even then, a proper prep, decontaminating and cleaning the surface so the coating bonds correctly, is essential. Car Hub inspects the paint and recommends only the correction the finish actually needs before coating.
